Korczak Ziolkowski worked on the Mt. Rushmore monument and was then asked to work on the Crazy Horse Memorial. He began work on the Crazy Horse Memorial in 1948. Once complete, this tribute to the Lakota leader will be the largest mountain carving in South Dakota, and the world.

I’m not sure if they will ever finish the carving of Crazy Horse on his horse as depicted in the photos. They have been working on it for almost 70 years.  Several members of Korczak’s family continue to work on the project.
