Before leaving Geelong this morning, we decided to take a walk along the waterfront. It ended up being a very fun walk due to the artwork on display.  We discovered that there are more than 100 sculptured bollards installed around the Geelong waterfront. The much-photographed and beloved bollards chronicle characters from the city’s past and present, including dapper young ladies in neck-to-knee bathing costumes, 1930s lifesavers, a Geelong footballer, jaunty sailors, fishermen and a town band. I did not know what a bollard was so I had to ask google and found that it is a short, thick post on a ship or dock, used to secure a ship’s mooring lines. So, all of these statues are made from these posts.
