I find Hamburg to be more of a complex city. I think because it has so many bridges, canals and waterways. In fact, Hamburg  has around 2,300 bridges, more than London, Venice and Amsterdam combined.  We started our day at the City Hall, which is very beautiful on the outside. We were able to go inside and look around its lovely interior. We also visited the old warehouse district called Speicherstadt. The district and the surrounding area have been under redevelopment for many years as the port industry has evolved. We also visited the Elbphilharmonie which is a large concert venue near the port. We visited St. Michael’s Church which is very ornate inside. And we looked at the remains of St Nicholas Church. The bombing of Hamburg in World War 11 destroyed the bulk of the church. The removal of the rubble left only its crypt, its site and  the tall-spired tower, largely hollow save for a large set of bells. They added an elevator so you can ride to the top of the tower for views of Hamburg.

Residents of Hamburg are called Hamburgers, and the Hamburger sandwich was named after the city.
