This road trip is one of the highly recommended things to do in Maui. It is only 52 miles to Hana, but the trip takes at least 2 hours. The road is very narrow and windy with 59 bridges, of which 46 of them are one lane only. It is a beautiful drive through lush tropical rain forests. We stopped at many of the lookouts with beautiful views of the country side and waterfalls. We also took a self guided tour of the Lava Tube. The first quarter mile of the cave is opened for tours. It was pretty cool to see and we were the only ones in the cave.

We did notice that the people who live along the route are not very friendly. There were several signs posted telling the tourists to turn around and go home. We had at least three vehicles drive by and yell “GO HOME”.

All in all it was an enjoyable day!
