Helsinki, Finland

We started our day with a visit to Senate Square which is the oldest part of central Helsinki. We visited the Helsinki Cathedral which is lovely on the outside and rather plain on the inside. We wandered along the Esplanade, admiring the buildings and beautiful flowers. We ended up at St. John’s Church which was completed in 1891.  It is a very nice church, both inside and out. We stopped by the Old Market Hall where a variety of stalls sell fish, meat, cheeses, fruits & vegetables. Our last stop was at the Uspenski Cathedral which is the largest orthodox church in Western Europe. With its golden cupolas and redbrick facade, the church is one of the clearest symbols of the Russian impact on Finnish history.
