We visited the Belem Tower which is a medieval fortified tower sitting on a tiny  island, the Padrao dos Descobrimentos statue which was built in 1940 commemorating 500 years since Henry the Navigator’s death and the Monument to the Overseas Combatants. The area is very popular and quite busy.

We also walked through the steep, narrow streets of Alfama which is one of Lisbon’s oldest neighborhoods. We noticed that two enormous cruise ships were docked and must have let off thousands of people. It was very busy.
