Today we took the funicular up to Fourviere Hill where the Basillica of Notre Dame sits high above the city. You can see this grand church from everywhere in the city. It is composed of 2 churches one upon the other and is an amazing church. The wall are covered with thousands of colorful mosaics. From the outside viewing deck you can see the entire city of Lyon.

We also visited the ancient ruins of the Gallo-Roman ampitheatre which is still used each year for a two month festival featuring theatre, dance, music, opera, cinema and circus arts.
