We took the high speed train to Segovia, another ancient, walled city. Many of the buildings date back to the 11th & 12th century. The Roman aqueduct dates back to 50 BC and is well preserved and very impressive with 166 arches and approximately 1/2 mile in length. We visited the Alcazar Palace where several kings resided during the Middle ages. It was used as a state prison for more than two centuries. The upper part of the building has been housing the General Military Archive since 1898. Walt Disney is said to have modeled Sleeping Beauty’s castle in California’s Disneyland on Segovia’s Alcazar. We went up in the tower where we had great views of the city and the surrounding countryside.
