Vilnius, Lithuania (Day 2)

Today we went back to “Old Town” to see what we missed yesterday. We saw two more beautiful churches. The Church of St. Theresa which dates back to the 1650’s and is very lovely inside. We also visited St. Ann’s church which dates back to 1495. It is amazing on the outside. The white castle with the orange roof and domes is actually an orthodox church.

We also visited the Bastion of the Vilnius Defensive Wall. The fortification bastion was built in the 16^th century as part of the city’s defensive wall system, which consisted of 10 gates. The wall formed a closed circle – almost two and a half kilometers in perimeter – around the entire city. The bastion suffered greatly from 1655 to 1661 during a war with Russia. In the late 18^th century, the bastion area was turned into a city dump. It was rebuilt in the 20^th century and turned into a museum in 1987.
